I teach Early childhood Music and Movement classes (lynsmusikgarten.com) and currently preside over the AZ state chapter of the Early Childhood Music and Movement Association (ecmma.org). We are the resource for preschool teachers and daycare providers in AZ to help with implementing developmentally appropriate music learning activities with early learners and their families.
I have been teaching music and movement to children since the early 1980’s directing youth choirs and musicals. I teach music at the Bethany Learning Center in Tempe and am a licensed Musikgarten teacher/business owner (both since 1996). Growing up in a family and community that sang often, I was active in dance, band, New England District choirs, musicals, touring ensembles, and was an employed vocalist at a summer resort. As a nursing student at Boston College I toured with the BC Chorale, was a finalist in the 2000 NATS vocal competition, and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree from ASU in Music Education and Childhood Development & Family Studies.
I have a Bachelor’s Degree from ASU in Music Education and Childhood Development & Family Studies and have completed my graduate studies in the music pedagogies of Kodály and Orff Schulwerk (certified through Level III in both), and completed the Level III certification for the Early Childhood Music and Movement Association. I am the current president of the ECMMA of AZ Chapter, and a member of the Music Teacher's National Association. My teaching philosophy embraces facilitating experiences of joyful music making for children, teachers, and families. I endeavor to provide a comprehensive approach to music literacy by using materials and methods that are developmentally appropriate for the distinct needs of young children. This includes building musicianship through integrating the experiences of speech, singing, rhythm, movement, drama, and playing instruments.
